Race Ambassador!!!

Woohoo! I am excited to announce that I am officially a race ambassador for the Los Cabos Half Marathon on February 11th, 2018!
This will be my first time as an ambassador for a race and I can not be more excited about it!
This race will take place in San José del Cabo, México the start time is 7:00 a.m.
The start and finish line are at Plaza Mijares, Historical Downtown, San José del Cabo.

There will be whale watching reception party, a race expo and a finish line party with food, beer and wine! I mean what more could you want for a race. Plus they have all sorts of events and excursions you can participate in while you are there.
You can find out more information about it here.
The race also offers a 5k and 10k option. So if you want to plan a racecation or a runcation you can bring friends and family and you can all do your own distance.
The best part is you can use code JESSICA10 to save $10 on your race entry.

San Diego County Fair 5K!

One day groupon had a special for the San Diego County Fair 5k and I decided to check it out. Of course I had to wrangle in one of my running friends to go with me since it was special deal for two tickets.

The race was on Saturday, June 17th, 2017 down in Del Mar, which is about an hour away.
We got to park right at the fair grounds and the packet pick up was at the edge of the parking lot.  It actually flowed quite nicely and we were able to get our packets and have enough time to drop them off at our car before the race started.
The race started and ended at the Del Mar Race Track. It was kind of cool because when we started we actually ran through the shoots for the horses for the races.

We started off at different times because there were so many people.
It was really cool to run through the fair grounds before anyone else was there and it was kind of cloudy which was nice.

However, the race was a bit short of a full 5k, but it wasn't actually timed either. And that was ok with me, it was just fun to run this race. And of course it was really cool to run through the cattle barn, seeing the jerseys reminded me of my dad's farm.

The best part was that we got a free admission ticket to the fair to use at another date. Of course with two young kids and our crazy summer schedule we never actually made it back, but we hope to get there next summer.

Santa Rosa Plateau!

Thursday morning I ran/hiked with my friend Elena at the beautiful Santa Rosa Plateau Ecological Reserve!

We decided to head out to the historic adobes and back. The route is about 6 miles round trip.  This place reminds me of Quarry Hill Nature center back in Rochester.  It has a visitor center and lots and lots of trails.  The reserve is on 9,000 acres and has the oldest standing buildings in Riverside county. You can learn more about it here.

We got lucky that day and there were a few clouds in the sky to help shade us from the sun.  I did lather up with my SPF 70 sunscreen before we left!  The sun out here always has such a high UV index that I don't ever go anywhere with out it.  However, I should have brought more water as my one bottle didn't last me very long. I need to invest in a hydration pack soon.
It was such a nice morning and we didn't see any scary creatures other than a dead tarantula.  It was a nice change of scenery.
